So Whose Are You Anyway?

So, whose are you anyway?
Think about it. When the police pull you over in your vehicle they ask for your drivers license. What is that? It’s a state issued ID card that gives all the vital information about you; it tells the cop who you are. When you are born, you are written up a birth certificate that says who you now are, the product of a parental union.
What happens when we think of this simple concept applied to God. Whose are we? The Bible says in Genesis 1:17,
“So God created man in His own image; He created him in the image of God; He created them male and female” (HCSB).
So we are God’s. He created us, therefore, we know whose we are. The question is, what do we do with that knowledge? We know we belong to God, that He made us in His image. And if we are created in His image…that means we’re pretty special. I mean, no two people are alike. We’re all uniquely gifted, all uniquely talented, all look uniquely different. We are ALL uniquely created in the image of our creator, God. Pretty sweet!
So God created us. Therefore, we know that we’re His. Our identity is marked with Him. So if we are God’s creation, how should act and behave? I mean, whether we want to admit it or not, we take on the characteristics of the people that influence us most, our parents. However, in this case God is our parent and His Son Jesus Christ was sent down to earth to live among us for 33 years. In that time, we were able t see God’s awesome characteristics exhibited through His son, Jesus.
Jesus modeled for us all an example of how an authentic follower of God should be. He lived a life of worship to God. He brought glory and honor to God by behaving differently from the world, and He identified with a purpose that was focused on God’s agenda, not His own.
So yea…all of this is a lot of information. What does it mean to the lay person? Well, if Jesus is the Son of God, and we are to follow His example of how He lived His life on earth…where do we start? I mean, we want to be identified by the life we live, right? Remember, God created us, so we should want to be identified with Him in our lifestyles and such. So let’s start from the top.
“He said to them, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself’” (Matthew 22:37-39).
Sounds pretty simple to me. I’m God’s creation, and Jesus is God’s Son. I’ll never see God physically, but through His Son I am able to see who God is; by the attributes and characteristics that incorporate God. Why would I not want to be like Jesus? If Jesus says the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind and to love your neighbor as yourself, shouldn’t we all be striving to live and so these things daily?
As you go through your life, ask yourself, “Whose am I?” You know you area creation of Almighty God, but are you acting like it? Are you exhibiting the characteristics that show your appreciation for the blessings in life that God has showered down on you? Do you recognize the fact that we need to be living FOR our Lord? Loving Him with everything that is within us? I hope so.
Why wait? Let today be the day that you properly identify with God, the day that you commit (or recommit) your life to Him and begin on the pathway to living a fulfilled, blessed, purpose-filled life that identifies you as God’s unique child.
